Join me May 12th, 2018 at the Mid-Continent Public Library’s LitUp Festival. This all-day literary event was designed with teens in mind. I love when young fans get direct access to the creative minds that inspire them, and that’s exactly how MCPL set up the day. Teens are staffing the event and interviewing all of the panelists. MCPL’s done a phenomenal job putting together panels that include bestselling authors, screenwriters, poets, and illustrators.
I’m fan-girling hard about the night’s keynote speaker Nnedi Okorafor, Ph.D. Whose book Who Fears Death has the distinction of being the most visceral read of my life. I’m trying to figure out how to tell Dr. Okorafor I loved her book so much it made me throw up—but you know, in a good way.
I’ll be on hand in a few sessions to give our teen moderators a little encouragement and perhaps guide the follow up questions. I’d love to see you in: illustrator D.E. Uhlig’s session at 10:00 a.m. and author Shannon Thompson’s session at 11:15.
Oh yeah, did I mention? All this awesome is FREE. All you need to do is register as soon as possible. Head on over to https://www.mymcpl.org/events/litup to check out all of the amazing speakers and reserve your space today.
Can’t wait to see you at MCPL’s Independence Branch (317 E. 24 Highway, Independence, MO 64050) on Saturday the 12th!
