The Color Eater a novel by Jessica Conoley

Unintended side-effects

The good thing about acting on ideas is you get more information and sometimes that includes unintended side-effects.

I’ve been doing my best to avoid a mental meltdown in the blizzard and 8 is Great has been helping. (Although to be totally honest I still feel like I’m failing on days I don’t write.) There was one day I looked down my list of happy/healthy things to do and was caught by surprise when the thing I don’t like doing on the list said, “ME! Pick me!” I realized I’d inadvertently stumbled onto a teaching tool for clients as I was trying to keep myself sane. I wrote more about it below.

I hope everybody in the midwest is warm from the freezing. I hope everybody in the west is safe from the fires. And I hope all of you are able to choose better feeling thoughts when things seem overwhelming. Great job on humaning!

Do You Recognize the Spark of Your Creative Guidance?

The 8 is Great challenge has been in swing for a few weeks now. (There’s still time to join. Full info can be found here.) One unexpected outcome was the realization that this is also a fantastic exercise to build your creative intuition muscle.

Each day as you look through your 8 is Great list there will be one or more items that stand out. Pause in that standout moment and really notice what that feels like for you. It may feel like:

·      Your body slightly leans forward when you read that item.

·      Your shoulders relax/tension leaves your body as you read that item.

·      When you have a crush on someone.

·      The item is in bold print.

·      A little giggly.

·      Bright.

·      Louder.

·      Exciting.

·      Doable.

·      Ringing in one ear.

·      Some other unique emotion or physical sensation.

That feeling is your creative intuition, and as it guides you through each successful 8 is Great day you are strengthening your ability to interpret and follow your own internal guidance.

At first it is going to be very subtle. The more you learn to recognize it AND act upon it the louder and clearer the direction will become.

How did your creative intuition show up? What did it feel like? Share in the comments below, over on Instagram @theCECoaches, or by emailing back—sharing your experience can help another creative recognize how creative energy is showing up for them!
