You know when it’s the dead of winter, been gray for days, and the whole world is frozen? Imagine a day like that, and you’re sitting in front of a huge window looking out at the world. As you’re sitting there watching squirrels, or kangaroos, or cars drive by, the sun comes out. It’s bright and cheerful and casts lovely long rays down, through the window, onto you. Your skin warms the slightest bit, your black sweater catches the sun’s heat and holds it in its fibers. You’re sitting there, watching the brighter, warmer world when a cloud comes by—blocking out the sun once again. The warmth of the sun on your skin disappears, quietly, nonchalantly—if you weren’t paying attention, you may not even notice it.
That subtle feeling of the sun on your skin and the awareness of when it is gone, is the closest I can describe to how energy awareness/sensitivity feels.
The first energy class I took I was doing a guided meditation where they told us to imagine a golden beam of light going from our tailbone down to the center of the earth. As a writer, imagining is very easy for me, and I did as I was told. What surprised me was once I imagined that golden light hitting the center of the earth, I physically felt something bounce back up that beam—a slight pulsation, almost like taking another person’s pulse.
The feeling was steady, constant, undeniable, and as subtle as that sunshine beam on a cold day.
I now know what I was feeling is called the Schumann Resonance: “a set of natural electromagnetic waves resonating in the Earth-ionosphere cavity, excited by global lightning activity, with a fundamental frequency around 7.83 Hz, acting like Earth’s ‘heartbeat’.”
The only other way I know to describe how to feel energy is by having you hold it in your hands. Hold your hands in front of you about shoulders width apart, (imagine cartoons where people are helping someone wind a ball of yarn—you’re the person with your hands out and string wrapped around them.) Now move your hands a few inches closer together, then pull them back out a few inches to their starting point. (Like you’re playing an accordion.) Keep moving your hands back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Do it for about five minutes, (maybe more, maybe less, just depends on how sensitive you are.) and you’ll start to feel something like a throbbing ball.
You can actually give the energy ball to someone else, move it from hand-to-hand, play with it however you want. When you’re done with it you can shove it into your chest, let it dissolve, release it with the intent it goes to someone specific; it’s not going to hurt anything. It’s just a little pick me up for wherever it goes.

This week’s 7 cards is out. I was surprised to pull SONG as the first card.
It’s also calendar new year this week, so happy new year if this is the one you celebrate. Personally I think lunar New Year hits stronger for me, but I do like an excuse to stay home and watch my favorite movie (The Philadelphia Story. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen it.)
